The Roots
The Argan tree is unique! It's native to the Sous valley region in Morocco.
It grows in and around this area, and neighboring areas between the Atlantic Ocean and the Atlas Mountains.
Our Journey Begins
The Argan fruit takes a full year to ripen, and one fruit is around half of it's weight in nuts.
The kernels in the Argan nut produce around half of their weight in oil.
The Argan fruit should be harvested when it's fully matured for the best results, and so they're picked up off the ground after they've fallen off the tree.
Sun Kissed
Once the fruits are all collected, they're all spread out on the ground and sun dried together, then peeled and de- pulped by hand.
The Drying Process can take around 7 days and up to 2 weeks, all depending on weather conditions.
A Tough Nut to Crack!
Next, only the best Argan nuts are selected and cracked individually to get to the oil rich kernel inside. The correct technique is needed for this step, to avoid deforming the nut or destroying the kernel.
"We Learned From Our Ancestors"
Here, the kernels are placed inside the Traditional grinder.
When making Argan oil for culinary use, it's at this stage that the Argan kernels are roasted before going in the grinder, and ground into a much darker paste. This gives culinary Argan oil a beautiful red colour.
Crushing time
This traditional method of grinding has been practiced for centuries.
The kernels are placed inside and ground into a paste, which pours into a bowl underneath. This can take hours just to obtain one litre!
Liquid Gold
This is the final stage for our Argan oil, where the oil is now pressed out of the paste by hand!
After the precious oil has finally been extracted, it will sit for a couple of days whilst the sediment settles. It's then packaged up and shipped to us, where we repackage it into 100ml bottles to ship to you!
